Battlefield Bad Company 2 review.

For this review I will do it in the format of Graphics, Sound, Game Play, and Control. This also more or less goes for the single player although all this information can factor into the multiplayer aspect the only real difference is the community you will play with. I played this game on my 360 although this review can go for either copy of the game, be it PS3 or 360.

Graphics :
The graphics for this game are nice and if you are familiar with the first Bad Company they should ring a bell. Although they are similar to the first game they still have enough of an improvement to be different. Character models look like they should, the don't look stiff and move in a realistic matter. While killing enemies they have a rag doll effect which works well in this game. Smoke and explosion effects look like they should seeing as you will see them quite often. Another graphic effect in the game is a frost over effect when you are out in the cold in a certain level, it makes it feel like your character is freezing.
The landscapes are nice and very detailed and the maps have a nice atmosphere to them. The Hud graphic for shot detection can somewhat be miss leading. You get shot from one direction, which you see where the shot came from but the graphic seems to show you were hit from the opposite direction. I have also noticed in some of the cut scenes the mouths won't be synced up to what they are saying, although I found this to be very rare(it could be happening after loading perhaps). Another flaw is the view distance, some enemies won't appear until you are close enough to them. I didn't find this very troubling unless I was using a sniper rifle. Overall the graphics are a nice upgrade from the original.

Sound :
The sound in a Battlefield game is essential to make the game feel like you are in a battlefield. I feel that this game does it very well, especially if you are using a good surround sound system. Everything from the gunshots to the explosions sound beautiful. There are also other things to be expected such as distant gunshots, they sound like they should which is in the distance. Environmental sounds also sound nice, although they aren't often but whether be it a storm or blowing snow it sounds nice and emulates what it really should sound like.
Other features like the voices are well done as well, nothing different than the first here. The same voice actors came back to do the voices of the main characters or bad company. Another feature of the voices are the random chatter, if something significant happened in the story and you are in an idle spot in action your team mates will start up with small talk that relates to past events. All in all I would have to say I have no complaints about the sound in the game.

Game Play :
Compared to the game play of the first I find it has vastly improved. Some of the differences you may notice right away are the health system and maps. The health system is a more modern regeneration type of health system that many games use, for example Call of Duty. You are allowed to get shot so many times depending on your difficulty and you may survive if you can find cover and let your health regenerate. Although some might say it is unoriginal I find it makes the game slightly more playable than the first Bad Company.
The maps are another thing that have been changed, this only goes for single player however. The first game featured larger maps that were somewhat open ended, such as the ability to explore more to find some of the hidden pickups. The maps were also more depended on vehicles to be able to get around. Bad Company 2 however has a more linear single player while it still keeps the element of you being able to search around for certain objects and pickups such as guns. The single player is also not depended on vehicles, you will get a certain vehicle for a certain part of the mission but that is about all you need. The vehicles are not under used nor are they over used.
Another improvement I have noticed is the AI, Bad Company had AI that seemed almost too smart in the sense that they seemed to know where you were at any given time even if you were sneaking and stayed hidden behind objects. I found myself to be shot at by tanks constantly even after respawning after death. Bad Company 2's AI is smart but not psychic smart, the higher the difficulty the higher the challenge of course, and it will provide you with an adequate challenge according to the set difficulty. Overall I would say if you somewhat enjoyed Bad Company but at the same time you found it to be a chore then you will be pleasantly surprised by Bad Company 2.

Controls :
The controls are smooth and responsive and work very well. The button layout has somewhat been changed from the first but if you are a fan of first person shooters you should not have a hard time with this game. They work well whether you are walking about or in a vehicle. The main difference with the vehicles that I noticed that changed from the first is the button used for acceleration, you use the right trigger for the acceleration instead of the left trigger from Bad Company. Although it is a small difference I found it to be useful seeing as most games with some sort of vehicle in it use the right trigger for acceleration. By default the sensitivity of the aiming was sluggish but that is easily fixed in the options. I myself have no real gripes about the controls.

Overall I would say this game is about an 8 or 8.5/10. It is a vast improvement from the first game. The single played isn't anything special but its entertaining, the multiplayer is where this game shines. Its fun, especially while playing with friends so you can work together in a squad. If your an old fan of the Battlefield games or a first person shooter fan looking for good online then this is the game for you.

Hope you enjoyed the review and found it useful.

In celebration of my birthday I have a surprise for everyone. The surprise is that I have nothing to post. The AvP unboxing video will be going up tomorrow after I pick it up from UPS. Currently still working on Bioshock 2, Bad Company 2... So far so good, really enjoying both.

Battlefield 2... the story so far.

So I just picked up Battlefield Bad Company 2 today. I'm only on the second chapter and noticed quite the difference between this and the first one. I'm happy to see this, it made the improvements where needed as far as I can tell... As far as I can see my review for this will be far better than it would be for BF:BC.

Bioshock 2, AvP review coming

I have just picked up Bioshock 2 and should be receiving my Hunters Edition after much turmoil. As I beat each of these games you can expect my review for them. Once again they will be unbiased and from a point of view of an average gamer I suppose you can say (this may be hard seeing as I'm a hardcore Alien and Predator fan but I promise it will be fair.) Also upon receiving AvP HE I will do an unpackaging/unboxing video for my youtube page here :
